Our Process

Every project begins with a clear strategy

Before we begin designing, we work with you to create a Project Brief & Design Strategy.

This document becomes the foundation for the entire project. It helps clarify priorities, explore constraints and align everyone involved in the process — from clients and consultants to contractors and suppliers.

It typically covers:

• spatial requirements and functionality
• architectural opportunities and constraints
• design direction and atmosphere
• project priorities and budget considerations
• practical requirements such as technology, lighting and services

This early stage allows us to test ideas, challenge assumptions and establish a clear direction before significant design work begins.

The result is a shared understanding of what success looks like — a north star for the project as it develops.

Our role

KVIST offers a full architectural interior design service, supporting projects from early concept through to completion.

Depending on the project, our work may include:

Spatial design & architectural thinking

Reconfiguring layouts to improve flow, light and functionality.
This may include renovations, extensions or internal reorganisation of existing spaces.

Interior design

Developing cohesive interior schemes including materials, finishes, lighting, furniture and joinery.

Joinery & bespoke design

Designing custom furniture, built-in joinery and architectural details that integrate seamlessly with the space.

Lighting & atmosphere

Creating lighting strategies that support how a space is used while enhancing mood and character.

Technical design & coordination

Working with other architects, engineers and contractors to ensure designs are buildable, compliant and delivered accurately.

Procurement & installation

Managing sourcing, ordering and delivery of furnishings, finishes and bespoke elements where required.

Final styling & installation

The final layer that brings the project together — ensuring the completed space feels considered, balanced and ready to be used.

Each project begins with understanding the people who will use the space and the experience it should create.

Fees

Every project is different, so we first establish the appropriate level of design involvement before recommending the scope of work and project fee.

Most projects are delivered on an agreed scope and fixed design fee, based on the scale of the project, the level of studio involvement and the team support required.

For transparency, our studio hourly rates are outlined below. These are primarily used for additional works or ad-hoc consultancy where required.

  • £150 + VAT per hour

  • £125 + VAT per hour

  • £90 + VAT per hour

  • £55 + VAT per hour

We will always discuss the recommended level of involvement and provide guidance on likely design time before work begins. These estimates are intended as guidance and may evolve as the project develops.
